Summer YA Programs

Sign up is ongoing for all summer programs.  All programs are open to East Islip Public Library cardholders going into 6th-12th grades.  Please include your grade in the note to instructor field to ensure your place in the program.

Tuesday, July 10, 7-8pm
Using a letter stencil, you will create a mosaic design using glass tiles, beads and buttons over canvas.  The result is stunning!





Thursday, July 12, 7-8:30pm
Learn how to create your own clay charms for a one-of-a-kind charm bracelet.





Monday, July 16, 7-8pm
You will get to measure, mix and make your waffle from scratch and create your very own ice cream sundae toppings.



Tuesdays, July 17, 24, 31 & August 7, 5-6:30pm
Calling all actors!  Attend these dramatic workshops and learn the art of improvisation, hone your acting skills, perfect your deliverance of monologues and even work on a bit of writing.  Student actors will critique their videotaped performances on the last session, promoting their directing talents as well!




Tuesday, July 17, 7-8pm
Make this small sachet pillow filled with herbs such as lavender, local pine needles or sage that may be placed under your pillow or on your headboard.




Thursday, July 19, 7-8pm
You pick the design; we'll provide the supplies and have a contest at the end to see who has built the superior catapult.





Monday, July 23, 7-8:30pm
Ghosts appear to people in places like their homes, campgrounds, parks and on vacation.  Some ghostly figures appear as white mists and others look like black shadows.  What are they?  Where do they come from?  Join The Paranormal Adventurers in search for the meaning of these visitors in the night.  Be prepared to tell your own ghost stories!



 

Wednesday, July 25, 7-8:30pm, Fee: $5 cash
Learn how to manicure, decorate and care for your nails like a professional.  There is a $5.00 nail kit fee to be paid in cash, the night of the program.




Tuesday, July 31, 7-8:30pm
First you will create an amorphic substance then you will use an amplifier, tone generator and speaker to vibrate the stuff at difference frequencies to create the moving "Creatures."



Wednesday, August 1, 7-8pm, Fee: $5 cash
Attend this interesting program and learn about the history of this ancient art form and how to apply designs to your hands, arms or feet to create a temporary tattoo.  Please note, you must hand in a signed permission slip when registering at the Adult Reference Desk and $5 cash must be paid the night of the program. 




Monday, August 6, 7-8:30pm
Learn how to capture a summer night sky with watercolor.  You will complete a project to take home.  This program involves materials that could get on clothing so please dress appropriately.


Tuesday, August 7, 3-4:30pm
Attend this program and make a variety of do-it-yourself jewelry and accessories.  Please bring one colorful t-shirt to reconstruct into something else.




 
Thursday, August 9, 7-8pm
Science or magic?  What makes puff pastry puff?  Why does crepe suzette burst into flames?  Explore the chemistry behind the culinary arts and prepare a magical meal.  Bring your science and culinary questions!




Monday, August 13, 7-8pm
Learn the science behind natural skin care and how ingredients found in the kitchen can substitute for costly cosmetics and make your own.





Tuesday, August 14, 7-8:30pm
Hear the legends of the characters in the sky, learn what planets and constellations to look our for and when to spot a shooting star.




Thursday, August 16, 7-8:30pm, Fee: $5 cash
Go back to school in style with your very own erasers made from clay!  There is a $5 cash fee due the night of the program.
