Finally, something you should do just because someone famous is doing it

Yes, that's right, LeBron James is reading...the Hunger Games.  Maybe you noticed this spring, video and photos of LeBron James reading before and after games.  Turns out, when his stress level was rising following all the criticism he was receiving leading up to and during the NBA playoffs, James found solace in reading. 

"So the reading has given me an opportunity to, just for those couple hours of the day or those 20 minutes, 25 minutes before the game, an opportunity just to read and think about something else and get a sense of what else is going on besides the game of basketball.  It's made me comfortable."

Considering he won the NBA championship this year, he might just be on to something.

Cliche as it may be, reading does have the power to take you to other worlds, to help you escape your surroundings and let go.  Give it a try, what have you got to lose?

There's still room in our Safe Boating Class...
Monday, June 25 (6-9pm), Tuesday, June 26 (6-9pm) & Wednesday, June 27 (7-9pm)

The license earned in this class is good for both boats and Jet Skis and will last for a lifetime.  An exam will be given on the last class and you must attend all three to obtain your license.  Why not take this class before all your summer fun begins?

For ages: 10+
Fee: $25 for ages 10-17, $30 for ages 18+

TumbleReadables

The East Islip Public Library has free trial access to TumbleReadables for the summer.

From their website:
"TumbleReadables is an online collection of read-along titles for elementary, middle school, and high school students which features adjustable online text and complete audio narration. The collection features chapter books, early readers, graphic novels, YA/teen novels, high interest/low level books for both middle school and high school students, plus classics of American and English literature."

It even features some of the classics on the required summer reading lists:

The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain
Macbeth by William Shakespeare
The Red Badge of Courage by Stephen Crane
